Les Donaldson

Les started his career as an apprentice electrician back in 1978 and through hard work, dedication and technical ability worked his way up from apprentice to site foreman and then site supervisor. He was then promoted to project engineer and worked for a number of large mechanical and electrical contractors such as ABB, Redpath Engineering, Lorne Stewart and Norstead.

After forging a successful working relationship with Lee Gardner at Norstead in 2006 Lee and Les decided to take the plunge and create their own successful business and Dongard was born!

Les is passionate about remaining at the heart of our site operations and is a regular visitor on sites inspecting the quality of our work and providing technical assistance to our site teams and clients.

Lee started his career as an apprentice electrical engineer back in 1988 with Norstead Engineering where during his apprenticeship he achieved ONC and HNC qualifications in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Lee remained at Norstead until the end of his apprenticeship and was promoted to a Project Engineer working on a number of large M & E projects including a £2M office development in the Centre of London, Docklands railway extension, a £1.8M Toyota Factory in Derby and a £1.4M Hewlett Packard Office Development in Bracknell.

Lee left Norstead between 1992 and 1994 to gain some valuable experience as a commercial engineer with Balfour Kilpatrick working on all commercial aspects of multi-million pound M & E projects. Returning to Norstead in 1992 to head up their commercial/purchasing department remained at Norstead for a further 14 years where he met Les Donaldson.

After forging a successful working relationship with Les Donaldson at Norstead in 2006 Lee and Les decided to take the plunge and create their own successful business and Dongard was born!

Josh Boyle

Josh started his career as an apprentice electrician back in 2004 and completed his apprenticeship in 2008 with Gilwood Engineering Services Limited. Due to his continued success and promotion within companies such as Rok Plc and Foremost Engineering Josh was eventually offered a role as an Electrical Project Manager at Dongard in 2010.

During his time as Project Manager Josh completed a £1.7m project for one of the largest Dairies in the UK (Muller Wiseman) – the Dairy had suffered a catastrophic fire in the switch room and Dongard were given the complex task of getting the Dairy back up and running within 2 weeks.  Josh and his team of 20 electricians completed this extraordinary task for the client and were subsequently rewarded the yearlong contract for the restoration of the dairy.

His dynamic approach and leadership qualities resulted in Lee and Les promoting Josh to Electrical Operations Director in 2015. Since becoming a Director of Dongard, Josh has been instrumental in the continued growth of the business and increasing the company’s’ turnover and profit margins. He currently leads a team of over 50 site technicians and 5 managers.

Chris Cassells

Chris Cassells

Chris started his career as a technical building services engineering apprentice back in 1990 and achieved ONC and HNC qualifications and became fully qualified in 1994.

During his four year apprenticeship he gained invaluable site and technical experience with Gilwood Engineering and was subsequently promoted to Project Engineer and was responsible for estimating, designing and the project management of all site operations. After an initial eight years with Gilwood Chris went on to work for larger Mechanical and Electrical organisations such as Rotrax and ABB as a Senior Projects Manager completing a number of large prestigious M & E projects across the country. He then to returned to Gilwood as Mechanical and Plumbing Director until the business was sold in 2007.

Chris then went on to create an M & E business within Rok Plc. this grew from an organic start-up business employing just 1 person to a profitable £4 million business employing over 30 people within the space of 3 years. He subsequently left Rok Plc to create a renewables installation company Opus Green Limited in partnership with Gavin Richardson which generated in excess of £5 million of sales from a standing start and over £1 million of net margin in just 5 years.

Josh Boyle who worked alongside Chris at Gilwood and Rok subsequently contacted Chris to see if he would be interested in creating a Mechanical and Plumbing division with Dongard – and the rest as they say…!
